There were two Prime Ministers in 1763- initially it was John Stuart, 1st Earl of Bute, who was a Conservative and the first Scotsman to become Prime Minister. He had been in office since 26th May the previous year and signed the Treaty of Paris, which ended the seven Year's War, but resigned due to criticism from within his own party that he'd made too many concessions in the Treaty.

He was replaced by the Whig George Grenville on 16th April, who introduced the unenforceable Stamp Act which is widely regarded as having been one of the causes of the American Revolution. He resigned on 13th July 1765, to be replaced by Charles Watson-Wentworth, 2nd Marquess of Rockingham.

Stuart died in 1792 at the age of 79, the same year as another former Prime Minister Lord North. Grenville died in 1770, at the age of just 58.
