Best Answer

Zeus was the chief god. He defeated his father Kronos, the chief Titan, who had swallowed all his brothers and sisters (Poseidon, Hades, Hera, etc). Poseidon, Hades and Zeus threw dice for realms, and Zeus won the sky, Poseidon the sea, and Hades got stuck with the Underworld. As the sky was where Mt. Olympus, the gods' home, was, he became the chief god.
