The Puerto Rican Day Parade and the Dominican Day Parade. However, neither of these parades take place during Hispanic Heritage Month, which is from September 15 to October 15. The Puerto Rican Day Parade takes place on the second Sunday of June, and the Dominican Day Parade takes place in August. National Hispanic Heritage Month was designated to be from September 15 to October 15 because September 15 is the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Since neither Puerto Rico nor the Dominican Republic are included among these five countries, it's really not necessary for the Puerto Rican and Dominican Parades to take place during Hispanic Heritage Month.
