Christopher Columbus:1451-1506
Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer who sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492, hoping to find a route to India (in order to trade for spices). He made four trips to the Caribbean and South America during the years 1492-1504.
This is an opinion and depending on who you ask depends on who is the most famous. Columbus was not very successful and ended his life in poverty, sick, and didn't gain the fame he wished for. He spent the last two years of his life ship wrecked and died soon after returning to Spain. His son worked at trying to revive his father's reputation and gain the recognition he felt his father lacked. As far as discovery and exploration goes I think that Magellan, who was the first to circle the globe, is far greater than Columbus who was a failure.
