Ronald Reagan (38th President) was the oldest serving president to date. At his first inauguration (in 1981) he was 69, and he was 73 when he was sworn in the second time (in 1985).

He was the oldest president in office, being 77 his last year and leaving office just 16 days before his 78th birthday.

Gerald Ford (36th President) was the oldest surviving ex-President. He died in 2006 at the age of 93, living to be 45 days older than Reagan, who died in 2000.
