Jefferson Davis was the president of the Confederacy. He was installed by the Confederate Congress as a preliminary move, later to a full term. Davis could not run for reelection as the Confederate Constitution called for one six year term for Confederate presidents. Even today, that system might be better than the one the US has now. The idea behind it was that unlike now, the president could not run for reelection. This would allow for no political campaigning. The US president could focus more on running the nation and not worry about being reelected.
