Alliances in Greece changed. For example several times Sparta and Athens fought on the same side, at others on opposing sides. Similarly at times Sparta and Thebes fought together, at other times were opponents. Generally Sparta was allied to other Doric city-states, though again this was not a hard and fast rule.
And although Persia was usually an opponent of the Greek city-states, it was Persian financial support which enabled Sparta and its allies to get a competent fleet in the Peloponnesian War and defeat Athens.
This varied over the centuries. During this period alliances shanged regularly. Before and during the Persian wars Sparta and Athens were allies. Then Athens helped Sparta put dow a rebellion. Then, after Persia was no longer a threat, Athens dominated the anti-Persian alliance, and became recognised as a threat by the Peloponnese city-states which turned to Sparta for leadership.
Thebes was an ally of Sparta in the war with Athens. Thebes and Sparta were adversaries after that war.
It was a pattern of shifting lliances based on expediency.
Sparta's (Lacedaemonians) allies were the Peloponnesian League (most of the Peloponnese, including Corinth). Sparta also had financial help for the Persian.
