In the US "Revolutionary War", the colonists were mainly English colonists and their descendants, but there were also French, Dutch, and Polish settlers. The thirteen colonies were all along the Atlantic Coast (plus Pennsylvania, which is very close and conducted trade through the rivers, the Great Lakes, and Chesapeake Bay).
