The most well-known today are Queen Hatshepsut, and the Pharaohs Thutmose III, Amenhotep III, Akhenaten (he of the Sun religion) and Tutankhamun, mostly famous for being found with his tomb and treasure still intact. Thutmose III (the warrior king) made Egypt the most powerful country in the then-known world.
Later famous Pharaohs (the word by the way originally meant 'royal palace' and only later came to mean 'king') were Ramesses II the Great and Ramesses iii. The first conquered today's Israel and Libanon, the other became famous for successfully beating back several invading armies, most famously the so-called Sea People.

There were limestone and rock quarries nearby, which they `farmed` and sold.
