Although the Iron Age commenced in the 12th century BCE in Asia [India, Persia, Anatolia, Near East] and Ancient Greece in Europe the first place that iron was used for tools and weapons was West Africa. The rest of Europe used iron at least 4 centuries later circa 8th century BCE

That question suggests that all of a sudden an army was equipped with them, which is not the case. Iron started out as a precious commodity, and in the beginning having even an iron dagger was proof of someone's importance and wealth within a community. The use of iron weapons developed very gradually and over a long period of time, starting with the officers and slowly trickling down to elite soldiers and later to the common soldiers. We don't know which army at which occasion was the first to be (largely) equipped with iron weapons; but the armies or Assyria, Sumer and Egypt are high on the list.

Was the Assyrian army the first large army use iron weapons?

there were iron weapons since Sumeria the first civilizations. Those who didn't know how to work it, had to make a more primitive weapon. When you encountered a civilization with arrows with flint, didn't mean that iron was not used, it meant that those didn't know how to extract it.
