The Nazis surrendered on May 7, 1945 to the Allies. It was not the end of World War 2 but the end of Europe's war.
Many people called WW1 the Great War, The First World War, the War to End All Wars, and the War Against the Huns (Hun was derogatory term for the Germans)
The world learned it must work together to maintain peace, restore devastated countries, help those in need, restore global trade and they formed the United Nations to promote global communication and prevent future world wars. It discovered that isolationism was too idealistic. The Cold War forced the situtation anyway.

Then end of World War I in November 1918 was not completely due to American involvement. The allied effort consisted of many countries and every one contributed to the surrender. They all fought and many from all of the allied countries died.
