The war between France and Vietminh(communist government army in North Vietnam) was ended by the victory of Vietminh which led by Ho Chi Minh. China and Soviet Union were also contributed on the Vietminh side to fight France. So they also had a factor in ended the war. France remained no more power in the Indochina after this war.

∙ 12y agoObviously the Americans were not fighting the French in South Vietnam from 1955 thru 1975. Threrefore the Vietnamese must have been there by themselves. Such being the case, French must have lost and departed the place years earlier.
If the French won the war they would have stayed! And of course the Americans would not have had to go and fight in South Vietnam the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
