The author of Where's Wally (he's actually only named Waldo in the United States and Canada) is British illustrator Martin Handford. Handford created Wally in 1986, after his editor had asked him to create a particular character that really stood out in his somewhat crowded illustrations. The result was Wally, a unique looking world traveller.
