Thomas Jefferson, later to become the third President of the U.S.A., wrote most of the original draft of the Declaration of Independence. He was part of a committee of five men; Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert Livingston and Roger Sherman were the other four members of the committee.

Texas settlers did NOT write the Declaration of Independence. Texas was settled in 1840 and became a state in 1846 while the Declaration was written by Jefferson in 1776. That is over 60 years later. Texas didn't exist in 1776.
