John Adams' wife, Abigail Smith, wrote the Treaty with France as she had won the "Best Penmanship in the Thirteen Colonies" award three years running. Interesting side note, there is a ongoing rumor that Abigail had used her womanly wiles to entice French foreign minister the Comte de Vergennes to sign the treaty. He had refused to negotiate with Benjamin Franklin after Franklin embarrassed him with a whoopee cushion at the now notorious "dîner de pets" in Paris.
