Check your owner's manual. The symptoms you describe sound like those that indicate that the "Fail Safe Cooling System" is being activated by high engine temp. Check your coolant level AND make sure the water pump hasn't failed.
are the cooling fans coming on
Check to make sure the cooling fans are coming on. Possible stuck thermostat, bad rad or waterpump. They are also well known for head gasket leaks.
Check the thermostat, it may be stuck in place.
Make sure your cooling fans are coming on and that your water is circulating through your radiator and hoses are not clogged. You may want to try and flush your cooling system
Is your fan coming on?
It MAY help with the overheating problem....but you really need to find out why it's overheating. Blown head gasket, stuck thermostat, bad water pump, fan not coming on, etc.
No heat coming from the heater and the car overheating is usually the thermostat stuck closed. The thermostat is supposed to open up at a certain temperature allowing the engine to warm up quickly.
I suggest you take your car to the dealer and they might be able to fix the problem.
The thermostat needs replacing any time you service the cooling system. You should also replace it if the engine is overheating, and you suspect it is defective. A blown head gasket will exhibit, certain symptoms. Coolant in the oil, white smoke from the tailpipe, overheating, air bubbles coming from the radiator, missing on one or more cylinders, a brown looking foam on the underside of the oil cap. A compression test will help to verify this.
1. overheating 2. temperature of engine not coming up in winter 3. poor engine performance 4. low gas milage
Cooling fans not coming on, thermostat stuck shut, low coolant, bad/plugged rad, water pump impeller not spinning, broken belt to water pump are places to start --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have replaced 5 thermostat's in my car in 3 years. I don't understand why it goes through them so fast but that always seems to be my problem.
Thermostat is stuck.. Is the cooling fans coming on at 232 degrees? Is the radiator sludged up?
