Natural Resources, diversity of people, freedom, and it all began during WW1. WW2 was when the U.S. really became a military and economies super power. I could spend many words describing why I thing the U.S, became a super power but this simplest answer is freedom. Freedom to innovate, to explore, to grow. All these were at the heart of America's growth.

After World War II the United States was the only country that didnt have all their factories obliterated. The world relied on them for products and they also had the cash to lend for other countries to rebuild. They have the biggest military as they continually build their military and have the biggest budget for their armed forces. Much of the world relies on them to keep the peace so many nations intentionally do not build their military forces up.
