It is the light switch on your steering colunm you need to replace it, they are about $80 dollars when I replaced mine a couple years ago
If both headlights went out at the same time it could be a blown fuse or a failed headlight relay.
The problem with the Nissan Elgrand if it does not start when the switch is on could be a mechanical problem.
check the fuse
i had the same problem....it was the headlight relay....bought some off eBay for a dollar apiece.....20 bucks at the store...also could be your pushbutton on the left side of the dash is unplugged.AnswerThere should be "emergency knobs" behind the headlights to raise and lower them. Or you could connect a 12v dc source to them and they will flip up and down.

Headlight switch.
it could be your mass air flow sensor
Blown fuse or the lights are just blown and need replacing.
Could be a linkage problem..
humm, This is strange because the DRLs (day time running lights) usually function from the same bulb as the headlights, in other words the headlights are always on so people dont forget to turn their lights on at night so if this is the case you have no problem. The only thing that might indicate a problem would be if the dash lights do not come on when the headlights are on, If this is the case then the turn signal switch could be at fault, otherwise I see no problem with the lights. Granted this could be the case or not but based on the question this is the best diagnosis I can provide, Good luck and I hope this helped
Look on the right side fender (under the hood) right behind the battery, there should be a black box there with relays inside (fuel pump is one of them) and in one of these spots should be 2 15 amp fuses for the headlights. another thing to check is the headlight switch itself, take it out and if it looks burnt or smells bad that could be your problem
it could be the crank sensor as it is a problem for the altimas.
