∙ 13y agoIt's more important to take BEFORE getting pregnant. Folate has been proven to reduce neural tube defects in developing fetuses. The neural tube changes affected by folate occur early in development, and so the most beneficial time for the developing fetus to have sufficient folate is also very early.
