A:The story of Cain and Abel occupies just sixteen verses in the Book of Genesis from their birth to the death of Abel and the banishment of Cain. The major theme of the story is that Abel pleased God by sacrificing a tender young lamb, while Cain clearly displeased God by offering the produce of his own farm, which was grain.

This was an important moral story for the early Jews, because it made it very clear that only the very best meats must be sacrificed and shared with the priests. Since the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple in 70 CE, sacrifices to God have now ceased, so it is arguable whether it is very important for us to know about Cain and Abel. After all, the murder of Abel was only incidental to the information that God is pleased when the best meats are offered and displeased by lesser offerings.

A:There are hundreds of Midrashim and commentaries which point out the lessons learned from the narrative (Genesis ch.4) of Cain (Qayin) and Abel (Hevel). Here is a single example:

"Qayin" means to acquire (Genesis 4:1), while "Hevel" means "vanity." Cain properly used his inclination to acquire, when he made an effort to gain God's grace through his offering. He misused it when he slid into jealousy.

Abel was more inclined to emotional equilibrium. He used his ability to see through the pointlessness (Hevel) of being impulsive. He didn't make an offering until he saw Cain's example, but he took the time to think deeper and realized that in the service of God, one must not be headlong or cavalier. Whereas Cain had offered "of the fruits" meaning whatever came to hand, Abel offered "the first-born of his sheep and their fats," meaning the best that he had. The Torah preserves this object-lesson for our edification.

A:Item:

Lost in translation ... the fact that "Abel"'s name is the same exact word as the

word in Ecclesiastes, translated as the mantra "Vanity of vanities, all is vanity."

Without going into a moral lesson here, the only comment is: When you read it

in its original language, and you notice this fact, you have to ask "Why ?", and

"What can I learn from this ?"

Did Cain treat Abel well?

The bible does not tell us of the early lives of Cain and Abel. We do not know what was in Cain's heart, but we do know that the time came when Cain was very angry with Abel and murdered him in a field. Perhaps this animosity had been in his heart for some time, and perhaps not.

What do you know about the first murder?

The first murder was committed when Cain slew Abel in the book of Genesis. What the Bible tells us is Cain was jealous over his brother's sacrafice pleased God while Cain's did not. People have killed for much less. The Bible tells us God asked Cain the whereabouts of Abel and Cain answered 'Am I my brother's keeper?' But Abel's blood cried out to God from the Earth where it was spilled. God exiled Cain to the land of Nod.

Where does it say you are you your brother's keeper in the Bible?

Genesis 4:9 goes as follows: Then the Lord said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" He said, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?" No where does it specifically say "You ARE your brothers' keeper," rather it's a question for one to ponder and a snippy remark made by Cain to God.

What year did Cain kill abel?

The scriptures give no indication as to this time period. It only gives us events in the lives of the characters mentioned in scripture. We do not even know that Cain was the first born to Adam and Eve. The mention of Cain was because of the important part he and his brother Able played in the story of the first murder to get gain.

What does it mean when your ouija board spells Cain Abel?

Well, my scripture teacher taught us about these 2 boys named cain and abel who were sons of adam and eve or something. they both worked on a farm, able sorted out plants and stuff, while cain sorted out animals. Then i cant remember what else she said after that but then she said they made a sacrifice for god, cain gave god some meat from an animal he killed and abel gave him a plant he had grown. god dint like what cain gave him but liked what abel gave him. cain was angry for trying and got so angry at his brothers gift being liked, that he killed abel. god asked cain where his brother was and cain said idk im not my brothers keeper. then god already knew where abel was and punished cain (i cant remember how since im only 12!) and thats all the info i can give u...hope it helps oh btw im gessing when it sed cain and abel maybe ur either gonna get killed by your bro or sister or your gonna kill your bro or sister...or something! otherwise idk y else ur board wood of sed this...

What were the names of the children of Abel?

The scriptures give no account of Abel having any children. Then there is no account that he did not get married and have children. As a point of interest the account of Cain and Abel is there to let us know that it is easy to follow the Lord, just as easy as it is to follow Satan. As we are all carnally minded Satan has great power over the earth.

Why did Cain kill Abel in the Bible?

Cain 4:8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. Because God liked Abel's animal sacrifice more than Cain's vegetables, Cain kills his brother Abel in a fit of religious jealousy. Genesis 4:3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. (4:3-5) 4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: 4:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

What does the Bible say about Cain and able?

Cain and able were Adam and Eve's children in the bible. Forgive me for not knowing the exact details but Cain and Able each gave God gifts (one gave him livestock and one veg, i think), God preferred Able's gift (or at least Cain thought so) and out of jealousy Cain slayed Able. When God later asked Cain where Able was, Cain replyed "Am I my brother's Keeper?" Soon God found out of Ables murder and banished Cain. He then gave Adam and Eve a third son, Seth, to replace the two they had lost. Hope that's helpful!

What does the story of Cain and abel teach us about people today?

It shows us that jealousy between brothers and sisters, today also can also lead to murder and being enemies.

Why was Cain jealous of Abel?

Abel worshiped God according to the instructions provided, whereas Cain worshiped God his own way. Mk:7:7: Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Where did Cain live after slaying Abel?

The bible tells us that Cain and Abel were brothers. Cain and Abel both made an offer to the Lord. The smoke from Abel's altar went straight up to heaven, but the smoke from Cain's altar stayed on the earth. Cain did not offer as the Lord had told them too. Cain was displeased and later killed his brother. Cain became the first murderer! Murderers do not enter heaven! Lesson: watch out for jealousy!!! Jesus forgives but you have to do this with a true repentant heart and certainly kill no more! Cain knew what he was supposed to do, though it is assumed in the Bible as they were intelligent people (as they were about 50 times as smart as us), and that was to offer a sacrifice, a living sacrifice, but he did what he wanted, and offered of his own hand, his works, his plants/crops. Abel also knew what he was to do, and though his brother did not do the right thing, he was to, and he offered a lamb, a living sacrifice, one that was to symbolize Christ on the cross, which was also a prophesy itself, as abel was as a lamb and he died by his brother's hand, as Christ would later do, without any recorded struggle, which was the way in Christ would also die as well.

What was the reason in the Bible for God changing his mind and allowing us to eat meat?

The earliest reference was when God rejected Cain's farm produce sacrifice and accepted Abel's Animal sacrifices. Genesis 4:3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. (4:3-5) 4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: And the Lord had respect unto Abel." God likes Abel's dead animals better than Cain's fruits and vegetables. Why? Well, no reason is given, but it probably has something to do with the amount of pain, blood, and gore involved.
