For the same reason they can't see mine, or yours, or anyone else's without permission: certain records (including college transcripts and medical records) are protected by federal privacy laws, and cannot be released unless the person wishes to make them public. The vast majority of presidential candidates have never released their private records, and they are under no obligation to do so. Further, not releasing them does not mean they have something to hide. Some extremely intelligent candidates with excellent college grades still did not release their transcripts when they ran for office.

In some cases, school records do get into the media-- we know, for example, that Barack Obama did in fact graduate from Harvard Law School with academic honors in June 1991. He was not famous or well-known yet, but the local media tend to cover certain graduations (Harvard, Boston University, Boston College, etc), and Mr. Obama's name and his honors were listed on the official program.

No, this is another internet myth, which has also been spread by Republicans like Donald Trump during the presidential campaign. Mr. Obama's grades are protected by federal privacy laws, the same as your grades or my grades are; thus, he doesn't have to pay money to protect them, and he can release them if he chooses to. We know, for example, that he was in the top 10% of his graduating class at Harvard Law School, and received academic honors (Magna Cum Laude) when he received his law degree in 1991.
