Incandescent light bulbs are being phased out because they are inefficient, causing them to use more power to make the same amount of light. This is not restricted to Australia alone, but is indicative of worldwide action, following the example of Brazil and Venezuela who led the way in 2005.

The European Union and Switzerland followed, along with Australia, and other countries such as Russia, Canada, Argentina and the USA will also be phasing out these light bulbs over the next few years. Several Asian nations are also following suit.

Why do Compact fluorescent light bulbs strobe in my ceiling fan?

because the turning fan blades create this effect In the press to promote the virtues of fluorescent bulbs, one key physical attribute has been left out of the discussion, these bulbs 'excite' the gas using AC current, and the older bulbs and most of new ones actually blink or strobe 60x a sec (from the 60 hz AC current used. Humans can not directly see this as we can only see up to 30 x a sec, but if an interference pattern or other off / on condition exists, it is possible to expose this strobe effect, by altering it's frequency . I do not know if the new bulbs pulse or strobe at 60 cps, but unless they use direct current, they are strobing / blinking at some frequency, this is not natural continuously emitted light and is not very healthy as it does still affect your sub conscience and moods,, and other minor type neurological impacts. I have not found anything that says they have resolved this blinking light aspect of cfl's, they don't mention it anywhere I have looked. But as in physics, movement relative to a strobing light in a certain way or speed, can alter the observed frequencies and they can become noticeable ; I would never read or look at anything closely for significant time without other natural light or incandescent light around ,it would appear that led's give off continuous light as they use dc. You never see this type of strobe using incandescent bulbs or fire ( . Candles). Other comments??
