It was not uncommon for a full-size, 1950's sedan to exceed 4,500 lbs. A Cadillac Eldorado or Buick Roadmaster went over 5,000 lbs. and performed no better than 12 miles per gallon. Most subcompacts today are around 2,500 lbs. and get at least 30 miles per gallon.
