How do you adjust rear brakes on Ford Fiesta?

Drum braked models have self adjusting rear brakes. The adjusters are crap design and often don't work. Take a look at the rear shoes and see how the adjusters work.... clean the adjusters and ensure everything is operating as it should. Apply a small amount of high melting point grease to the adjusters. Re-assemble the brakes and pump the brake pedal to engage the adjusting mechanism. That's it!! have fun.

Are the rear brakes in a Mercury Sable self adjusting?

Yes - Provided that the self adjusters have not seized from rust. That is quite common with drum brakes. Some year Sables have rear disc brakes. Those self adjust also. The Taurus /Sable rear disc adjusters are just as bad at seizing from rust as the drum adjusters. -On occasion I've even had to remove them and fit a whole new adjuster.

They are self adjusting. You don't have to adjust them. Problem is the wear limit on the drum is only 1mm. When worn to the limit the adjusters don't work.

What is a self adjuster?

Self-adjusters for drum brakes expand as the brake shoes wear so the gap between the shoes and the drum remains roughly constant throughout the life of the shoes. They are almost always located at the bottom of the brakes, separating the two shoes. Teeth on the gear of the self-adjusters engage with a metal tab when you apply the brakes. As the brakes wear, the metal tab turns the gear and causes the self-adjusters to unscrew and expand. Make sure when installing self-adjusters that you buy the adjuster for the correct side of the car. The left and right side adjusters are threaded in opposite directions. If you put the wrong one on the wrong side, it will tighten instead of expand and eventually your brakes will not work correctly.

No! If the self adjuster isn't working you will either need to replace them of fix them because it takes stopping the weight of the vehicle for the adjusters to work.

How do you adjust the rear brake shoes on Ford Laser ke?

They are self adjusting. The wear limit on the drums is only 1mm, and the minimum lining is 1mm, so if you have these limits, the adjusters are on the limit and won't work. However they may be seized.
