Prior to President Lincoln, American Presidents were not photographed because Photography had not yet been invented. All US Presidents from Lincoln onwards have been extensively photographed because they are historically significant. However, Lincoln was more historically significant than most, because of his role in guiding the US through the Civil War, and ending slavery.
