The Taj Mahal is important to India for four reasons, at least. They are 1. This building more than any other is considered to be the most beautiful on Earth and 2. to most of the world, the Taj Mahal is the only structure in all of India that they know. 3. It is the symbol of India, as is the Statue of Liberty the symbol of America, Big Ben Britain the Eiffel Tower France, the Sydney Opera House Australia, the Brandenburg Gate Germany, the Pyramids Egypt, the Parthenon Greece, and so on. 4. Given the above reasons, billions of people would like to make a trip to India at least once in their lifetime, perhaps for no other reason, than to see the Taj Mahal before they die, to sit on that same bench as so many famous people (like Jacqueline Kennedy for example) and gaze out toward the perfect symmetry of the Taj Mahal and it's reflection in the lagoon before it... and they do....which, as India's top tourist attraction, brings in a great deal of revenue into India. Alas, I have not seen it. However I did the next best thing. I Googled videos of the Taj Mahal and watch several of them.
