∙ 12y agoIt states it in the American constitution that a president may only run for two terms max. This is because they belive in a democracy this is right and fair. In Canada :) you can be in office for many years, some PMs have been in power for over fifteen years
George Washington served two terms and was asked to serve again. He was smart enough to realize that this would turn into another monarchy. As a free country that wanted no king this was not a good idea. Every President after Washington respected this convention until F.D. R. who served three terms and died trying to serve a fourth. After this Presidency some issues became apparent and our Government passed a law keeping this from ever occurring again.
