Shotgun barrels in the US must be at least 18 inches long, and are generally smooth inside. Handgun barrels are usually much shorter than 18 inches, and are rifled- a set of spiral grooves (rifling) is cut into the inside of the barrel to make bullets spin when fired.
According to section 202.275 of Nevada State law: a "Short barreled shotgun" is:A shotgun with one or more barrels that has an overall length of less than 26 inches, and or,a barrel length of less than 18 inches
Short barreled shotgun is actually a legal term- it means a shotgun that has barrels less than 18 inches, or an overall length of less than 26". To my knowledge, H&A did NOT make a short barreled shotgun. Information is thin- they went out of business about 1914-1916, but all listings I have seen are for 28 inch barrels.
check with the MI State Police. MI appears to follow the Federal law, which requires a barrel length of at least 18 inches, and overall length of at least 26 inches. From Michigan State Code, Firearms, Definitions: (i) "Short-barreled shotgun" means a shotgun having 1 or more barrels less than 18 inches in length or a weapon made from a shotgun, whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise, if the weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches.
The length of a shotgun barrel is federally regulated and is 18 inches. Barrels come in 18 inch length's but i recommend the 18.5 inch barrel, just in case guys measuring has a old knarled up measuring tape.

Pistol barrels range from 2" to 12", and almost every increment in between. Longer barrels increase accuracy, shorter barrels make for more compactness.
Most are full or modified unless the barrles have been shortenedThere are different barrel lengths- legally, anywhere from 18 inches, out to about 32- although most are 26-28 inches. The external diameter may vary some, but not a lot.
According to "Parker Guns, The Old Reliable" by Ed Muderlak, Parker in 1937 at least one pair of Shotguns on a No. 1/2 frame. Each of the guns were fitted with both 12 & 20 gauge barrels. Each of the barrels were 24 inches. I have no record of the 8/10 interchangeable barrels but I do know that Parker had many request for a 10/12 combination for which they refused because of the extra metal needed to fit the two barrels at the breech, thereby making the gun one to two pounds heavier.
