Slaves in those days were mere property, one could do almost anything one wanted to with them, including sex.

The god of the Hebrews in the Old Testament considered the Israelites to be above all other peoples and thus they were able to own inferior peoples.

Keep in mind that the other peoples considered the Israelites to be inferior and could own them also.

So basically, in short, according to the Old Testament, God is quite the racist.

According to the Gnostic's (early Christians) texts, the Hebrew God was considered to be defective, and that's why there is such a difference between the Old and New testaments.

There is nothing good about Slavery, either back then or nowadays. It's a problem for many religions to justify.

Answer:Slavery was prevalent and widely accepted in the ancient world. The economies of Egypt, Greece, and Rome were based on slave labor. In the first Christian century, one of of every three persons in Italy and one out of five elsewhere was a slave. Slaves served as domestic and civil servants, temple slaves, craftsmen and gladiators. Some were highly intelligent and held responsible positions. Legally, slaves had no rights but most were treated humanely and were better off than many free persons.

Israel's law protected slaves in various ways. Slavery laws appear in Exodus 12:44-48; 21:1-11,20-21, 26-27; Leviticus 25:39-55; and Deut. 15:12-18; 16:11,14; 23:15-16. Most of these concern humane treatment and manumission (or freeing of slaves). A person could become a slave as a result of capture in war, default on a debt, inability to support oneself, voluntarily selling oneself, being sold as a child by destitute parents, birth to slave parents, conviction of a crime, or kidnapping and piracy. Industrious slaves could make and save money and purchase their own freedom (Acts 6:9). Masters were urged to be kind to their slaves (Eph. 6:9; Col. 4:1). Slave trading was condemned (1 Timothy 1:10).

The Essenes were the only Jewish party opposed to slavery. Neither Jesus nor the apostles condemned slavery. Jesus and the apostles set forth principles of human dignity and equality which eventually led to abolition.

Why did God allow the Israelites to be slaves in Egypt in the first place?

For a number of reasons. One reason was to teach some important lessons, such as empathy (Exodus 22:21), and knowledge of God (ibid. 10:2). Another reason was that Egypt served as the iron furnace (Deuteronomy 4:20) in which gold is smelted: the Egyptian exile served to sort out which Israelites were loyal to God and which weren't.

Why did Egyptians make a final attempt to capture the Israelites and why did God destroy the army in the Red Sea?

How do you know that God cared about the Israelite slaves in Egypt?

A:The Bible says that Moses was born after the Israelites became slaves and then lived to 120 years old, but did not begin the Exodus until just 40 years before his death. So, God must have willingly allowed the Israelites to suffer as slaves for more than 80 years and probably much longer. Nevertheless, the Bible also says that God cared about the Israelite slaves. On the other hand, more than ninety per cent of scholars are said to believe that there never was an Exodus from Egypt as described in the Bible. The Israelite nation was never enslaved and therefore God had no need to care about the Israelites.

What did God command to Moses?

After Moses ha fled Egypt God came unto him in the form of a burning bush and told him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt due to the forced labor they underwent for Pharaoh. Moses protested saying he was not a great speaker so God allowed Aaron to speak for him. Moses appeared before he elders and turned his staff into a serpent so they would believe him. He then performed the miracle before Pharaoh but God had hardened his heart so he would not allow the Israelites to leave. After the the death of the first born son, with Passover for the Israelites, Pharaoh chased them out of Egypt. Moses then received the Ten Commandments and the miracle of manna.

How might Exodus challenge a Christian's image of God?

It shouldn't at all. When the Israelites came out of Egypt, "strangers" (likely other slaves from foreign nations) came out with them. Eventually, they were accepted among the Israelites as Israelites. It is believed that these strangers who were graffed into Israel are a picture (or a type) of those who by faith in Yehoshua (Jesus) are graffed into the household of God as per Romans 11 and Eph. 2.
