But it was obvious from Hitler's behavior immediately following the signing that he had no intention whatsoever of abiding by it.

From what I understand...the concordat (agreement) gave the vatican/roman catholics certain priveliges and protection. and so in return, the vatican gave support to Hitler. I could be wrong, but I think it's something along those lines.
