Why did Italy invade abyssinia?

Mussolini wanted to bring back the good old days of the Roman Empire, and as you may recall, Rome had previously fought a lengthy series of wars with Carthage in northern Africa. By invading Ethiopia, Italy sought to recapture its lost glory.

Italy invaded Egypt in Summer/Fall of 1940 ostensibly to gain control of the Suez Canal. But after the Italian Army encountered difficulties and delays, they scaled back their goals. It became an effort to advance into Egypt and battle any Allied forces - mainly British and French. Ultimataly, since Mussolini was under the impression Germany would invade England in the near future, his goal became to just engage British and Free French Allied forces to tie them up while Germany invaded England. Neither happened. The Italians never even reached the main British army in Egypt, and eventually over 200,000 Italian troops surrendered. Because Mussolini said that it was a great land for vacations and such but Italy said that it was bad so they fought for a year and Italy won and used it as a naval base

Italy wanted to invade Africa and Greece, because like the Japanese and Germans, they wanted to take over other countries so the axis powers could someday rule the world.
