James 1 (James 3rd of Scotland) wanted to gain greater control of Ireland after having taken vast tracts of land from to lords of Ireland, thus he "planted" or colonized much of what is now northern Ireland, mainly with western lowland Scots and also with English and some Germans. The planting began in, and was greatest around Ulster, but involved most of Northern Ireland

Why does the UK want Ulster?

The UK does not want Ulster. Ulster is an Irish province consisting of 9 counties. 6 of those counties make up what is known as Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is often incorrectly referred to as Ulster. The majority of people in Northern Ireland want to remain part of the UK, as they regard themselves as being British.

Why does England not give ulster back to Ireland?

It doesn't control Ulster. It only has control over 2 thirds of it. 1 third was reclaimed by the Irish. The Brits moved their own people in so when it came to votes, the Brits would win. Now, though, 44%, the opressed people that used to be a "minority", want it back with Ireland.

Why is north and south Ireland segrogated?

when the Anglo Irish treat was signed in 1920 six of the nine the nine ulster counties where exempted from the treaty due to the fact they had a unionist majority and they did not want to leave the union. The reason they had a unionist majority was due to the fact that 1606 the plantion of ulster took place. King James I confiscated the land from all the Irish chieftains all of whom where catholic and used it to settle colonists mostly from England and Scotland. the scottish settlers where mostly Presbyterian and English Protestant's. Prior to its conquest in the 1590s, ulster had been the most rebellious part of Ireland to the English invaison, a province existing largely outside English control.

What was the goal of Irish nationaltists?

The goal of Irish nationalists is to free all of Ireland from British control and to unite all of Ireland under a single Irish government. Currently three provinces of Ireland in the south and west are the Irish Republic, a Catholic nation with the capital in Dublin. The remaining province, Ulster, is a part of Great Britain, and is mostly Protestant. The roots of the conflict go back hundreds of years, with British efforts to conquer Ireland dating back to around 1300. The stage was set for the modern conflict in the time of King James I of England, who established the Ulster Plantations in Ireland in the early 1600s, and encouraged British and Scottish Protestants to settle in Ireland. (Many of the Scots who did so moved on to America, where they are called the Scotch-Irish). The descendants of these settlers are the Protestant majority in Ulster today, and do not want to be part of Ireland, preferring to remain a part of Great Britain. The other three provinces got their independence from England in the early 1920s. There is a substantial Irish Catholic minority in Northern Ireland (Ulster) who want to be part of Ireland, and fought for many years against the British Army and the Protestant Ulster Defense Forces to achieve that goal. A tenuous peace was established about 13 years ago and is for the most part holding, ending more than 30 years of the most recent chapter in this centuries long conflict.

Why was ulster so hard to conquer?

The reason the Irish failed to take Ulster back is because the people of Ulster didn't want to be Irish, they died and resisted, the British army which was sent over caused major drama creating opposing militia groups such as the IRA, anyone who wanted British rule was at constant threat from the IRA but the IRA were under threat from the British army, search up "go home British soldiers" it is a rebel song. Ireland never got Ulster back because nobody wanted them to.

Where do you plant things on sims 3 ambitions?

If your sim has a seed in their inventory, click on the seed and say Plant, or plant many if you want to plant more of the same kind of seed. From there, you can place the plant anywhere you want as long as there's soil where you want to plant it. Happy simming! :).
