John Mason received the land grant from the Council for New England. He had title to the land that became New Hampshire but he never visited the Colony. David Thompson was the physical force acting on behalf of Captain Mason who actually went to the New World and did the work. Mason is correctly listed as the founder but the work was done for him by David Thompson who was Acting in behalf of an absentee land owner.
He wanted to make it a fishing colony so he sent David Thompson and his party of settlers to New Hampshire followed a few year later by Edward and William Hiltons group.

He sent colonist over to found New Hampshire and it was named after his home town. John Wheelwright founded a colony in New Hampshire not New Hampshire it's self.
