Jackson was reprimanded for creating an international flap by imprisoning the Spanish governor. The invasion put the US in a very strong position for negotiated the Adams-Onis Treaty which ceded Florida to the US and alleviated the problem of Indian raids out of Florida.

America never officially invaded Florida... When Andrew Jackson was still an American army general he pursued Seminole Indians (who were raiding into Georgia) into Spanish Florida. This is know as the First Seminole War and it caused much anger back in Spain.
