st valentine was prosecuted because he hold marriages for people even thou the king (ruler or something) ordered that no one can marry so they can focus on war. eventually the king knew about st valentine's activities and ordered him to be executed.

Father Valentine continued to marry couples secretly until the emperor learned of him. He had Valentine arrested, thrown into prison, tortured and then beheaded.
