The United States had two wars involving Germany. The US entered World War One because Germany returned to the dangerous policy of unrestricted submarine warfare which endangered the lives and ships of the US.The US became involved with Germany in World War Two because Germany's ally, Imperial Japan had attacked the US Naval base of Pearl Harbor and Hitler declared war on the US. This was after December 7, 1941.
In each war, the US was not part of the beginning of either war. Circumstances forced the hand of the US and war was the only solution.

When John Adams was US president the US was not involved in any wars.
US Citizens rarely felt a need to join in foreign wars. Germany made it easier for the US to get involved when they declared a policy of unrestricted U-Boat activity.
