Why does Anakin Skywalker turn to the dark side?

Anakin turned to the dark side because Darth Sidious told Anakin that he had the power to save the ones he loves and that Sidious could teach Anakin This power. So Anakin turned to the dark side to try and save Padme (Padme is anakin's wife) from Death

he dint know until it was too late. he only thought that he could get that power to stop people from dying, but his love for padme and desire to save her blinded him towards the fact that palpy was a sith. remember, he even asked padme to follow him--he dint even realize what he had done until he realized that e'one, even his master and his wife, had forsaken him. then he got angry, because he was being arrogant and selfish (again) and that just pushed him further down "a path that I can't follow" (--Padme).

Anakin had nightmares about his wife (Padme') dying in childbirth, like he did before his mother died of a Sand People raid. He was convinced she would die in childbirth, so he was consumed in saving her.

Later on, Chancellor Palpatine told him in a secret conversation the story of Darth Plaguas the Wise, which was a Sith legend that told of a Sith that could save the people he cared about from death.

Anakin wanted to learn the power, but Palpatine told him a Jedi Knight could not learn the power.

Then after Anakin discovered that Palpatine was the Sith Lord, he told the Jedi Kinghts, and the Jedi Knights, lead by Mace Windu, went to kill the Chancellor.

Anakin was left behind, but as he sat in the Jedi Temple, he was convinced that Palpatine could teach him the power to save his beloved wife. (Since Palpatine was the Sith Lord he could teach Anakin a Sith trick)

So Anakin went to the location of the battle, where Mace Windu and Palpatine were battling fiercely.

Palpatine won Anakin over by telling him he could help Anakin save Padme' while pretending to be deathly hurt. Anakin fell for his lie, and killed Mace Windu. (The Chancellor had already killed Mace Windu's company)

Then after that, Anakin joined the Dark Side, in order to save his wife.

He failed to save his wife though, because once he turned to the Dark Side, and she heard all that he had done from Obi Wan, (Anakin had attacked the Jedi temple and killed all the Jedi, including the younglings) she was so heartbroken that she had no other reason to live.

So she died, giving birth to Anakin's son Luke Skywalker and Leia Skywalker.

Anakin gave into temptation, and let love guide his actions and emotions, rather then let them motivate his emotions and actions, as stating by Luke Skywalker after he reestablishes a new Jedi Order.
He thought with all the power from the dark side, he could save Padme'.

i think anakin was still mad at his mother being dead and he dident want the same thing to happen to senetor amadala so when he shaw palpatine\the emperor dieing by a jedi master (mace windu) he thought the jedi had turned evil (mace said no to a fair trial) anakin killed mace windu and later on mustifar got thrown in lava and later turned in to DART VADER and the emp. made the suit make him more evil.

No not really remember what Yoda said "fear is the path to the dark side" well anakin had fear about padme dieing given birth... well as mother getting killed by some sand creatures... and also chancellor palpatine aka lord sidious messed with anakins amotions... and the suit did not make him eviler he was good when he saved luke...if it was not for darth V luke would be dead and the empire would rule the galaxy until another jedi is born... ok now it was not mace windu's falt... mace was tryin to kill him because thats what started all wars...

He had a vision of his secret wife, Padme, dying in childbirth, and he also had a huge lust for any power than can stop people from dying. And since Emperor Palpatine warmed up to Anakin and was able to manipulate him, Palpatine tricked him into joining the dark side, thinking that it would fix everything, which of course it didn't.

Anakin really wanted to save Padmè because he couldn't lose her like his mother, so He turned in order to save her but then realized he was becoming the very thing he swore to destroy, as said in Padmè's last words, "There's good in him, I know there is", Luke turns him back to the light in return of the Jedi, however, he dies two seconds after, so it doesn't make much of a difference, in summary, Anakin turned because he feared losing Padmè, so he turned, and lost her himself...
