Governments and royalty funded some of these journeys possibly because the explorer needed a ship or some help with the voyages, so they would agree to help. They would only help though if they believed that the explorer could do the journey or should. Some people, like King Charles V, gave support for expeditions but only because they like the idea or dream that the explorer had. But other people like King Ferdinan rejected their plans, ideas or dreams.

Governments and royalty funded these journeys during the Age of Exploration for various reasons. One reason was to find new trade routes and establish colonies to enhance their economic power. Additionally, the search for valuable resources, such as gold and spices, served as a driving force. Political competition between European powers also played a role, as they sought to expand their influence and claim territories in the New World. Finally, there was a desire to spread Christianity and convert indigenous peoples to Catholicism.
