Boat, foot, horse, mule, wagon. The volcano erupted in 79 so after that no one went there. You can still see the ruts that the wagon wheels made in Pompeii.
The people of Pompeii ignored the earthquake of 63 for the same reason that the people around the area today, although aware of the danger, still remain. The area is their home. They live and make their livings there. Pompeii had experienced earthquakes and tremors before so no one thought anything of it.The people of Pompeii ignored the earthquake of 63 for the same reason that the people around the area today, although aware of the danger, still remain. Pompeii was buried as a result of a two day eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79, and accidentally rediscovered in 1748. It seems that excavations have been going on since the 1750's through the 1860's... so at least more than 100 years. So the answer is that Pompeii was buried for approximately 1700 years.
