The ZL 900 Eliminator got bad critics from the too small gas tank - you couldn't "get out of town with it". Passenger seat was too small and uncomfortable. In the time Kawasaki redesigned the bike to the ZL 1000, the Yamaha V-max had made it's way with all it's improvements. The V-max sold more on horsepower too, but didn't in fact not outperform the ZL 900 in the first years.

Suzuki pushed their Madura 1200 - also a muscle bike, and Honda sold the Magna, only the ZL-900 Eliminator got bad reviews - but not for the power....
