Countries take over other countries because of their imperialistic nature. For example if Country A takes over Country B. Country A can take Natural Resources from Country B. This benefits Country A, the country that is imperialistic because it has more resources that it can use.

What was the US policy known as containment?

The containment policy was that the US would fight against any attempt by existing communist countries to take over other countries and add them to the Soviet bloc. This was the reason for the Korean War (in which the North Korean effort to take over South Korea was successfully prevented) and the Vietnam War (in which the North Vietnamese effort to take over South Vietnam succeeded despite US efforts at containment).

What did many Americans fear most about the idea of having Communist in the US?

Communists were perceived as wanting to take over the entire world, with their forms of government and economics. After WW2, they controlled China and Russia (which had branched out into the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics), two of the largest nations on earth. It was easy to see how Americans might have been afraid that they wanted to take over the US, as well. Further, they had taken over these large countries from within, so (at least the sometimes irrational fear went...) a small group in the U.S. would lead an internal revolution that would take over the whole country.

How many mound builders does it take to build one mound?

The original theory was that they used baskets of dirt, and that may still hold true for smaller mounds. Recent studies show that much more complex methods were required for the larger mounds (although they don't give examples of what that may have been).

How does the desire of European countries to keep independence divide Europe?

Because some countries want to take them over and make them part of something larger, and this causes friction between the countries - even if the countries are small, if, say, Russia was to invade and take over, the rest of the world would be upset.

Why do lottery winners usually take an immediate smaller cash payout instead of a larger payout paid periodically over time?

The larger payout amount is an "estimated value" based on the smaller actual payout plus interest. If you take the larger payout, you are essentially allowing the lottery holders to invest your money. The risk is if the lottery goes bankrupt, you will get nothing. Also, I assume most people would prefer to invest their own money and keep all of it.
