What made prehistoric animals stay alive?

I will have a stab at answering this question. That there were prehistoric animals roaming the earth is a fact, cave drawings, bones and the Wooly Mammoth found in the ice. Why God put them on the earth and had them wiped out are best answered by Him. There would not have been any cohabitation with man for man would have wiped them out as soon as possible. God made them for His own pleasure and took them off the earth likewise, leaving only those animals that man could handle.
