As a result of the Bay of Ton kin attack, he got the Bay of Ton kin Resolution
Historians generally agree on the year 1961.
The timing of Kennedy's assassination November 22, 1963 was in the pre-Vietnam war years. It is believed Kennedy was planning to pull US troops from Vietnam and remove us from that conflict. After he was killed there were more in power who wanted the conflict to take place than to pull our troops.
JFK
No. President Kennedy sent advisors to South Vietnam, not Korea. Vietnam was the slow-growing cancer that allowed advisers to become involved. JFK sent the SEALS and Green Berets to Southeast Asia (Vietnam). JFK authorized the "Green Beret" for the US Special Forces. The SEALS were converted UDT men (Under Water Demolition men, aka Frogmen); they too were converted to SEALS on JFK's watch.
JFK was against sending Troops to Vietnam. After the Bay o Pigs debacle, JFK want to avoid a new conorntation with the Communists. Military men always want to fight, that is what they are trained for, but JFK could not afford a second bad decision and expext to be reelected. If JFK had not been ambushed, when his motorcade was turned at the last minute, he was ambushed by a member of our government that had the referent power to get the route changed and stall both the Secret Service and Military Presidential Security. Somebody would need to have the unquestionable control of an organization like the FBI. No one would believe a person could do that unless the motorcade could be rerouted into an unsecured, enemy controlled well armed traitors that had nothing to do with the government, but wanted JFK assinated for illegal monetary gains. The government traitor had to have a very severe personal hatred of JFK as well. I wonder who that could be?

President Kennedy sent additional US Advisers & Special Forces (Green Berets) to Vietnam in 1961 up thru 1962. Regular US combat troops did not arrive (officially) until 1965 under President Johnson. Since JFK had troops covertly already arriving in Vietnam by March or April of 1961, he must have ordered them about on his inauguration day of Jan.20, 1961, since it takes a month or two at best/quickest for that to happen...

JFK
JFK
When JFK was in office Vietnam was not the problem it became. Eisenhower began it when he told Vietnam the United States would help when the French left, and then JFK was elected it wasn't an issue with the American public. JFK sent advisers into Vietnam to help and train forces to fight the communist. So, there wasn't a big announcement or much said about sending advisors into the country. Things were just starting to escalate when JFK was killed and that left Vietnam to LBJ to do something. It was LBJ who really sent troops and escalated the "police action " into a war and by 1968 the largest draft in US history. Nixon expanded the war into Laos and did secret bombardment. All of this was done on the foreign policy to contain communist aggression and to save the world for democracy. As it went on the newspapers carried more stories and every night on TV there was reports on site from Vietnam. It was the TV news showing the war that convinced the public the war was wrong. Notice we get very little about the Middle East nor about our men who have died there. That is not an accident.

The Vietnam War.
The easy and often repeated belief. US troops had been in RVN (Republic of South Vietnam) before Johnson (LBJ) was president; before his former boss JFK (Kennedy) was president. US servicemen were being killed in battle in South Vietnam long before LBJ took office in Washington. The Johnson administration commenced open war (via the Tonkin Gulf Resolution) with North Vietnam in August 1964. No other US president prior to LBJ conducted open hostilities with North Vietnam. Open hostilities=Open aerial bombing/bombing campaigns (Operation Rolling Thunder, etc.).
