Sir John A. Macdonald sir john A MacDonald
Sir John A Macdonald's belief was to build a railway.
Build a railway as well as many other things.
about $25 000 000
Sir John A. MacDonald aspired to build a Canadian Pacific Railway. Not only would it be an impressive feat, but it would help Canada by increasing the speed of moving troops (preparedness for American invasion), allowed for settlement in the west, and united the country, from British Columbia to Nova Scotia. MacDonald went so far as being involved in bribary (see the Pacific Scandal) to get the railroad completed.
The railway was part of John A Macdonald's national policy. he wanted to build the railway so he can unite the east and west of Canada, so the East can by western goods and the western could sell their products. also to keep cheap American goods out of Canada.
Alexander Mackenzie kinda hated the railway, and John. A. Macdonald kinda liked it.

sir john a. MacDonald , and others as well. there were many, but its was basically John a. MacDonald's idea ..
Alexander Mackenzie kinda hated the railway, and John. A. Macdonald kinda liked it. But also keep in mind John sucked.
It was in the year 1873, which led to the resignation of John A. Macdonald's government.
The building of a trans-continental railway was one of the conditions for the colony of British Columbia agreeing to join Confederation. This was the major reason, but by no means the only one. The story of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) has been told in many books, including two by Pierre Berton. There was also an excellent television mini series produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). It was based on Berton's books and was narrated by him.
