Very few slaves fought for the South. That was a desperate last-minute plan by Davis and Lee, much too late to make a difference.
The slaves that were liberated by the Union troops followed the armies North, and were given menial jobs around the camps. Eventually some of them were allowed into uniform.
They were told that if they fought they would become free. This was enticing to many who were tired of being slaves.

Slaves fought on both the north and the south side
The Emancipation Proclamation, issued by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862, permitted African Americans to fight for the North during the American Civil War. This proclamation declared that all slaves in Confederate territory were declared free, and authorized the recruitment of African American soldiers into the Union Army. By the end of the war, over 180,000 African American soldiers had served in the Union Army.
There were some slaves who fought with the colonists and there were free african men in the North who fought with the colonists. A larger majority of slaves fought with the British. It was well known across the colonies that any slave who fought with the British would receive their freedom after the Revolutionary War was over.
Technically slaves could not fight in the war unless they had permission from the owners or there owners had made them fight. But at the end of the Civil War all the slaves were set free this is what the civil war was about the North wanted the slaves to be set free but the south wanted slaves as they relied on them for there economy. this was the Cotton indusrty mainly when the North won the war they decleared all slaves free.
the north won they let free all slaves from the south, and now African Americans can fight in wars
Many blacks did fight in the south but not as much as blacks in the north. Blacks in the south that fought were either free land owners and were fighting to keep their land, or they were slaves of owners who were drafted in the war and they fought alongside their owners.
Of course! Some rich white men sent their slaves to fight for them, and others brought their slaves with them to work in the army behind the lines, and with them in battle. Some free blacks also fought for the South.
Slaves fought for both sides, if they were free they would fight for the North to help free others. If they were slaves they would be forced to go to help the South win. The implementation of having slaves in the South become Confederate soldiers came very late in the war. It did not effect the outcome of the war at all.
Many Southerners believed that slaves were property, and property cannot have a gun, fight, or kill people. Sometimes blacks did fight for the Confederacy, however
Joseph Wheeler fought for the South. Joe Hooker fought for the North.
