This wasn't the case with all personnel deployed to Vietnam. Units rotated in and out of Vietnam. Incoming personnel would be sent in as replacements for soldiers who'd finished their tour before the rest of their unit or had been killed or wounded. Those personnel were sent to Vietnam and assigned to a unit there.
Legends says that US used Extensive Helicopters to deploy its soldiers in tough terrain of Vietnam.
WWII had the AIRBORNE Divisions (Paratroopers) Vietnam had the AIRMOBILE Divisions (Helicopter borne infantrymen) The 1st Air Cav was the US Army's first "Airmobile" division in history, to deploy and enter combat (battle of Ia Drang 1965). There is a movie (film)about it, Mel Gibson's "We Were Soldiers Once..."
US Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara believed more troops were required for the war in Vietnam. His recommendation to US President Johnson was to deploy at least 400,000 troops in Vietnam by the end of 1966.
Yes, smoke grenades, marking rounds, rockets, and various forms of flame weapons were used in Vietnam (along with CS gas). But officially the US did not deploy chemical warfare in Vietnam. During the Viet era; US doctrine was: 1. Never to deploy biological weapons 2. Use chemical warfare only in self defense (meaning the other nation had to use it first) 3. Reserved the right of first strike with nuclear weapons
Around from 700 to 1200 soldiers died during ww2 when their parachute didn't deploy.

Decamp is archaic English, redeploy is what is currently in vogue, but recall would be the correct antonym for deploy. E.g. "The deployed Soldiers were recalled by the sound of the Bugle." Hope that helps.
For the US to re-deploy from South Vietnam...which the US did (after the POWs were returned, that was the US condition).
Lyndon B. Johnson
deploy combat troops to vietnam
The US chose NOT to deploy nuclear weapons. (The US did deploy nuclear weapons against Japan in WWII). The US chose NOT to invade North Vietnam. (The US did invade North Korea during the Korean War).

US Marines & US Sailors got there by ships. US Soldiers originally deployed with their whole units, thus they too went to South Vietnam by ship. After the USA units were in place (in country) then replacements usually arrived by chartered civilian airliners (like TWA, Flying Tiger Airlines, Braniff, etc.). US Marines/Sailors continued to deploy via ocean going vessels.
Just went on patrol; anything not identified as "friendly" was shot up.
To put, do, create, or move something to a useful place. The general deployed his soldiers.
