The idea behind the Anzac's landing on Gallipoli was to eventually meet up with the British forces who were landing at a southerly peninsula. The British would advance up the peninsula while the ANZAC would head up the peninsula and defeat the Turkish army which would make the use of the Dardanelles
There was no ANZAC campaign. Presuming that "ANZAC campaign" refers to the Gallipoli campaign, where the ANZAC legend was born, this occurred in 1915. To be precise, the Gallipoli campaign began in the early hours of 25 April 1915, and continued for around eight months.
They remained in Turkey, confronted the Russians and crushed the Armenians.
The Battle of Gallipoli took place on the Turkish peninsula of Gallipoli. It happened between April 1915 up to January 1916. It captured the Ottoman capital of Constantinople, now called Istanbul, with over 262,000 men injured.
From a New Zealander's point of view, the war at Gallipoli went wrong because: 1. There was a lack of planning involved (on Churchills part). 2. They landed on the wrong beach because they had bad navigators and inaccurate maps. 3. When they landed, they did not advance quickly enough so the Turks got the high land.
OP, go watch the movie Gallipoli. That will give you a good idea of what the ANZAC forces went through in WW I aka "The war to end all wars."
25th of April 1915.
The went to Gallipoli first
The ANZACS went to Cairo on December 4th, 1914 so they could train and prepare for what was ahead in Gallipoli.
1915, April 25, landed on the Gallipolli Peninsula.1916, Jan. 9, evacuated the Gallipolli Peninsula.
The ANZACS trained in Egypt.
i seriosly dont know (good work) Gallipoli was one of the wars biggest disasters. The ANZACs were being flattened, due to a combination of bad navigation, andbad handling of the situation from then on. Ironically the best part of it was when we left. We didn't lose a single man during the evactuation, but lost hundreds when we first arrived. Go figure
