There could be hundreds of reasons why a person migrate to other countries. But to Filipinos the major reason is to search for greener pastures. There is a great need for jobs in the Philippines but the economy and the local market could not afford to offer more jobs as the economy is still in its downgrade and the population is continually increasing. To answer the problem of unemployment, the Filipino people go abroad where there are more job opportunities that could support them and their families.

During the late 19th Century, the Philippines was under the control of the Spanish government. It wasn't only Philippines that was under Spain but other countries as well, like Cuba.

After a US warship (the Maine) exploded in Havana harbor in 1898, the US declared war on Spain, and destroyed the Spanish fleet in the Battle of Manila Bay. After the war, the Spaniards gave up and the Philippines was taken over by the Americans. There they declared the "Benevolent Assimilation" of the islands as a territory of the United States, and as a Commonwealth in 1935. After World War II and the general end of world colonialism, the Philippines were restored to independent rule in 1946.

That would depend greatly on which Filipino people one is referring to, and where 'here' is.

A large number of Filipinos came to America after World War 2 because Filipino soldiers and sailors who served in the United States military could (in some circumstances) apply for US citizenship.

Some Filipinos have come to the US and other countries because life on certain of the islands is troublesome or dangerous.

Many Filipinos have come to the US in search of jobs and economic security.

first answer:

The Japanese , ostensibly , sought to establish the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere" wherein the intention to create a self-sufficient "bloc of Asian nations led by the Japanese and free of Western powers" .

This was done to oust the Western Powers so that the Japanese would have commercial control of mineral resources throughout the region .

second improved answer:

In WW2, the Japanese invaded the Philippines to conquer this US territory that was to be granted indepenence in a few short years. The Japanese at that time intended to do in the Philippines, what they had done in Korea & Manchuria, and were then doing in China-plunder, murder, enslave, etc. The Japanese government (controlled by the Army) intended nothing good for the people of the Philippines.
