There are several reasons, but the few that are the most relevant are:
1) Slavery: Slavery was considered a vital institution in the South and the Constitution had already come to several compromises on the issue. If slaves were to have been given their rights and freedoms, the United Stated would have quickly split into two countries.
2) Misogyny: Women were considered mentally inferior to men in 1789 and would have seemed improper to give them the same rights as men at that time.
3) Racism: In 1789, White Men typically thought non-Whites were less cultured, important, and intelligent than they were. This refers to Native Americans, Freed Black-Men, and minimal Asian populations.
