Confucianism was supported because it taught that people need to give up their worely desires in order to reach heaven and they had to give up everything in order to reach heaven. So Confucius set out in a tree for 49 days wondering how to end peoples suffering

The Japanese did not embrace Confucianism to the degree that it was followed in China, Korea, and Vietnam. Confucianism was integrated into the Buddhist and Shintoist faiths that the Japanese already followed and further solidified the various social relationships present in the Japanese State. There was never a Confucian Academy or Worship Hall in Japan as there were throughout China, Korea, and Vietnam.
